TouchDx® introduces ReAct® for the iPhone, a novel application for use in the neurosciences (including neuro-rehabilitation) to assess attention, fine motor skills, appendicular coordination, visual spatial processing, and reaction time.

Reaction time is defined by the elapsed time (in milliseconds) between the presentation of a given stimulus and the subsequent behavioral response. Numerous tasks for measuring reaction times exist – Simple, Go/No-Go, Discrimination, Recognition, and Choice, with outcomes dependent on age, gender, handedness, and ethnicity. These metrics can be used to assess fatigue, therapeutic response, sobriety, and psychological states.

This application aims to assess both reaction times and neurological integrity, focusing on upper extremity fine motor skills, assessing for the presence of dystaxia and visual spatial deficits, along with examining frontal lobe function. Successful performance is dependent upon the integrated functioning of upper (basal ganglia) and lower motor neurons and multiple sensory (cerebellum) subsystems.

Features:

  • Simple assessment of attention and reaction time can be observed in the office (or implemented at home?)
  • The number of hits is indicative of reactiion time.
  • The combination of positive hits and missed are expressive of fine motor skills and reaction time.
